Marmande, germinated in a soilless system and transplanted into soil (with a varied history of nitrogen (N) fertilisation of 0, 1, 2 or 4g/L), showed no significant difference in plant height (-1.9%; decreased at 0 g/L), no difference in stem diameter, no difference in total fresh weight (+0.6%), no difference in roots fresh weight (-6%), no difference in stems fresh weight (-2.7%), no difference in leaves fresh weight (-2.3%), no difference in fresh trusses weight (+50.4%; increased at 4 g/L), no difference in total dry weight (+0.8%), no difference in roots dry weight, no difference in stems dry weight (-2.6%), no difference in leaves dry weight (-0.7%), no difference in trusses dry weight (+21.1%; increased at 4 g/L), no difference in dry matter (%) (+0.9%), no difference in water use efficiency, no difference in nitrogen use efficiency, no difference in flowering date (increased at 0 g/L), no difference in height of first flower truss (+3.6%), no difference in nodes of first flower truss (+5.2%), no difference in internode length, no difference in number of leaves (-1.1%), no difference in leaf area (cm2 plant-1)(-87.2% sign; -12.5%); increased at 4 g/L), no difference in specific leaf area (-11.3%) no difference in stomatal conductance (+18.7%), decreased L* colour parameter (-1.8%), no difference in Chroma (-13.2%) and no difference in Hue colour parameter compared to untreated control plants.
